Sinner Defeats Hanfmann
Top seed Jannik Sinner was made to work before overcoming Germany's Yannick Hanfmann in four sets in the first round of the National Bank Open in Toronto on Tuesday.
The Italian, who won the Citi Open in Washington, D.C., last week, won 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and 45 minutes.
Sinner, who is now 11-0 against German players, will face either Miomir Kecmanovic or Denis Shapovalov in the second round.
