Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard Wins Chengdu Open Title
Yannick Hanfmann Defeated in the Final
Sun Fajing Reaches the Semifinals
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has won the Chengdu Open title after defeating Yannick Hanfmann in the final on Sunday. The 22-year-old Frenchman saved two set points in the first set before eventually prevailing 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Perricard, who is ranked 105th in the world, had a strong serving performance throughout the match, hitting 11 aces and winning 83% of points on his first serve.
Hanfmann, who is ranked 99th in the world, fought hard but was unable to find a way past Perricard's consistent and aggressive play.
In the semifinals, Perricard defeated Sun Fajing of China in straight sets, while Hanfmann upset top seed Denis Shapovalov in three sets.
The Chengdu Open is an ATP Challenger Tour event held in Chengdu, China. The tournament is played on hard courts and has a total prize pool of $162,480.
Perricard's victory in Chengdu is his second Challenger title of the year. He also won the Biella Challenger in Italy in March.
